South Branch Career and Technical Center's Welding program in an active member of the American Welding Society (AWS).  South Branch is also a regional accredited facility through the West Virginia Department of Vocational Education, being able to offer certifications in multiple welding processes in both structural steel and pipe.  SBCTC's welding students are highly valued and often sought out by area employers as they have developed the reputation of being well trained and are among the best available.  We are proud of our students and their accomplishments! 

 

Welding I 

This course is designed to introduce the student to the knowledge base and technical skills of the Welding industry.  Welding I begins with the NCCER Core curriculum which is a prerequisite to all Level I completions.  Students will complete modules in Basic Safety; Intro to Construction Math; Basic Communication and Employability Skills; and Introduction to Materials Handling.  Students will then begin developing skill sets in the fundamentals of Welding such as Welding Safety; Oxy-Fuel Cutting and Plasma Arc Cutting.

Welding II

Welding II will continue to build student skill sets in areas of Air Carbon Arc Cutting and Gouging; Base Metal Preparation; Weld Quality; SMAW-Equipment and Setup; Shielded Metal Arc Electrodes; SMAW-Beads and Fillet Welds; Joint Fit Up and Alignment;SMAW-Groove Welds with Backing; and SMAW-Open V-Groove Welds.

Welding III

Welding III will continue to build student skill sets in areas of Welding Symbols; Reading Welding Detail Drawings; Physical Characteristics and Mechanical Properties of Metals; Preheating and Post-heating of Metals; GMAW and FCAW-Equipment and Filler Metals; and FCAW-Plate.

Welding IV

Welding IV will build student skill sets in areas of GTAW-Equipment and GTAW-Plate.
